I am a New York City based Photographer originally from Louisville, Kentucky. I have been practicing professional photography since 2013 when I had the opportunity to photograph a travel abroad trip to Italy with the Carol Martin Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science. Over time I have developed my skills and approach to photography, ultimately resulting in photographing additional trips to China and England. These opportunities have allowed me to pursue photography through University funded undergraduate creative research ventures and through my personal business, Logan Houchens Photography. Through these opportunities I have been fortunate enough to sharpen my photography skills while also interacting with wonderful individuals and sharing in their life experiences.

Outside of photography my education and experiences came about through a very non-traditional process. I originally began attending Western Kentucky University during the Fall semester of 2013 when I was only 15 years old. This came about through a special public high school program known as the Carol Martin Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science. 

This program allows for the top 60 students in the state of Kentucky to attend Western Kentucky University after their sophomore year of high school replacing their last two years of high school with two years of University courses, undergraduate research, and study abroad opportunities. During my time in this program my focus was the field of computer science. By the time I had completed the program at 17 years old I had completed 63 hours of undergraduate courses, successfully accompanied and photographed three study and travel abroad trips, created and led a team of computer science researchers in a undergraduate research project, and co-created and programmed an additional undergraduate computer science research project.

 

Upon completion of the Gatton Academy program I continued at Western Kentucky University, but was drawn to the Mathematical Economics Bachelors of Science program as it integrated mathematics, computer science, economics, and large scale data analytics into one major. As I have now completed my major, I also completed two additional undergraduate research projects in Photography and in Mathematical Economics. I am now a graduate of the WKU Honors College as of May 2017 and I am looking forward to the opportunities the career field offers.
