Statistical impact and modeling of substance abuse on mental health
Research has identified certain situations in which substance abuse is present alongside psychiatric comorbidities in data, given size constraints. However, research has avoided a significant quantitative approach to the impact of substance abuse on the presence of psychiatric problems whilst also avoiding much of the data outside of the adolescence age group. Using census data on specific drug use, the presence of psychiatric problems and demographic and economic characteristics from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), this paper estimates the impact of substance abuse on psychiatric problems. Some findings conclude that those who have undergone opioid therapy, were admitted with marijuana, meth, or –given that they are a man- alcohol in their system cause them to be less likely to encounter psychiatric problems. With the opposite effect, the female gender, veterans, those with coke, cocaine, heroin, PCP, or forms of inhalants in their system cause them to be more likely to encounter psychiatric problems. If improved upon, this model allows for predictions to be made of geographical locations of more mental illness cases, following substance abuse, and for new advocacy techniques to be used as there is an additional possible negative side effect of abusing substances.

Key Word Usage between the Genders on Social Media via Data Mining and Data Analysis
Large scale data mining was done to Facebook's records via a self-written Mathematica program that featured timed Facebook data accessing, data presentation in easy to read formats, an algorithm to sort private, public and sub-private profiles, and multifunctional data sorting on the basis of gender, Facebook friend trees, and transitional words and phrases vs unique functioning words.

WKU for google GLass
Premier university Google Glass application for Western Kentucky University students. The application gives students the ability to retrieve information on the fly, including; meal plan dollar/count information, computer lab vacancies, campus restaurant openings, dining hall menus, and campus news and events. The application implemented the concept of micro interactions, which enabled students to retrieve the most relevant information effortlessly. Requested menus would be retrieved based on the time of day the feature was used, preferences would be stored to determine if the user preferred to see PC or Mac vacancies, and campus events would be shown based on the time of day--eliminating obsolete or passed events.

This project evaluated the effect of China's growing overpopulation problem in the context of standard of living, city design, transportation, spread of disease, education, depletion of natural resources, degradation of the environment, unemployment, and family planning legislation.

Hidden WKU: Abstract Photography as a tool for discovery
A process of collecting, editing, and manipulating photographs of Western Kentucky University's campus and students. The project's conclusion was comprised of one official art installation presentation at WKU, one thesis defense with a board of WKU professors, and one presentation of the project in the WKU Student REACH Conference.
